Be a part of the nation's largest undergraduate Soil Science program. Be among the most knowledgeable and best-trained people responsible for one of the world's most precious natural resources-Soil! Three-fourths of the world's food and nearly all of its fiber come from the soil. The quality programs offered at Cal Poly ensure that our graduates are well prepared for the diverse opportunities awaiting them. Career opportunities include agricultural managers, environmental consultants, food producers, land appraisers, hazardous waste specialists, laboratory technicians, licensed fertilizer and pesticide advisors, ecologists, field research managers, and many more. Cal Poly Soil Science graduates are employed by distinguished organizations including the following:

The Soil Science major at Cal Poly combines an extraordinary faculty with outstanding facilities to discover the "Learn-by-Doing" experience. Facilities include laboratories with up-to-date analyzers, a glasshouse and several thousand acres of agriculture, forest and range land managed by the College of Agriculture. The program provides a friendly atmosphere that is highly personable and rewarding. 

The Cal Poly experience provides the strong scientific foundation, practical skills and balanced general education needed for today's diverse job market. The program offers more specialized education with the following three curriculum concentrations: 

  • Land Resources
  • Environmental Management
  • Environmental Science and Technology
