Fruit Science

You have the opportunity to play a vital role in human nutrition in the fruit crop industry. Cal Poly fruit scientists assure bountiful supplies of fruits, nuts and grapes. Fruit Science graduates are employed as growers, managers, and consultants, as well as in sales and service, research and development, marketing and regulation. Our graduates work for a variety of companies, including:
  • E & J Gallo
  • Beckstoffer Vineyards
  • Bear Creek Corporation
  • Fiorini Ranch
  • Rossini Farming Co., Inc.
  • Dow AgroSciences
  • Wild Horse Winery & Vineyards
  • Pacific Vineyard Company
  • Treana Winery
  • Sunkist
  • Calavo
  • Sunsweet Growers

As with many majors at Cal Poly, the Fruit Science major offers hands-on experience through our "Learn by Doing" opportunities. From state-of-the-art facilities and intensive one-on-one relationships with faculty, to industry internships and on-campus enterprise projects, our students not only learn what to do, but acquire a valuable "Can Do" attitude in applying their knowledge.

As we like to say, you will be career- and industry-ready when you graduate from Cal Poly with a Bachelor's degree in Fruit Science.

Cal Poly students in Fruit Science can become involved with professional organizations such as the American Society for Horticultural Science and the American Society of Enology and Viticulture. Fruit Science graduates are ready to go today and ready to handle tomorrow.
